Guessing games have always been my favorite. I love making predictions and finding solutions to things. The HYG activity was a great way to teach the scientific method in which students make educated guesses or create hypothesis based on what they think will happen when combining different amounts of baking soda, calcium chloride and phenol red. When we tried this activity out as a class, we were all engaged and eager to see if our predictions were true. We tested different amounts of each ingredient and did several experiments, each time with different hypothesis. It's simple and effective so I will definitely be trying it out with my students one day.

Guess what?

What's in a flower?
Have you ever had one of those moments where you see something with a new perspective and have that "hmmm" expression on your face while you stand back and inspect it from a distance? That's how I felt when we dissected flowers a few weeks back. With so many stresses in life and always having to run from place to place, it's easy to walk right by things and let them go unnoticed. I never stopped to inspect flowers and notice all the components that make them up. When we had the chance to pick apart a tulip and a gerber daisy, I got to see how completely different they were while still having some interesting commonalities. They each had female parts, male parts, petals, sepals and a stem but they looked very different. Now every time I look a flower, I can't but think about it's parts and how different they are from other flowers. With that being said, I've learned to slow down in life and stop and smell the flowers.
